Google is changing how it stores media used with Search services. A new Search Services History setting will cover images, files, audio, and video submitted through tools including Google Lens, Search Live, voice search, and Translate. Google says the data may be used to provide, develop, and improve its services, including AI models. Users can turn off Search Services History and disable the separate Save Media option; accounts that already blocked search-history saving through Web & App Activity will keep the new setting off during the transition. The change expands the privacy stakes of AI training because visual and audio searches can contain faces, documents, locations, conversations, and other sensitive details.
